CENTER FOR CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION “LA MESITA”
This 15-acre site was transformed from a severely eroded and deforested area to a flourishing area with restored soils, aquifer, and plants through various low technology conservation techniques. To demonstrate these methods and transmit other environmental knowledge, the community created the “La Mesita” learning center that provides educational tours with over 35 “learning stations” demonstrating various aspects of conservation, such as, land restoration, erosion control, water capture and usage, native plant reproduction, biodiversity preservation, pollination via butterflies, environmental stoves, as well as various sculptures and structures relating art and nature.
